Welcome to the the official wiki of CookLUG! We hope you will meet up with us sometime to learn and share your interests in Linux and other Unix-like operating systems!

About Us

This user group is for Linux users of all levels. Our goal is to help the Cookeville community and surrounding areas broaden its knowledge of one of the world's most popular open source operating systems. If you are a Linux user or 'open source' enthusiast from any background, please attend...you will not be shunned!

We were having meetings every 4th Monday of the month at 'Poets on the Square', but for several months, we have temporarily stopped because we've been in need of a projector or some other presentation device. We encourage individuals to present the way(s) they use Linux and/or open source software. Usually people like to talk about what they do at their job, but hobbyists are certainly not excluded.

Please join our mailing list at [WWW]http://groups.google.com/group/cooklug/
(This is the best way to stay up to date with events and meetings and such)
or
jump in #cooklug on irc.freenode.net if you would like to chat. For more info click [WWW]here

Guidelines

The only guidelines that the group has, is that topics/discussions will be about the Linux OS and/or Unix-like OS's and/or open source software...hence why it is called a LUG (Linux User Group). Of course there will be exceptions such as the interfacing between server and client roles of different systems, their compatibility, and the like...

Honestly, this IS NOT an effort to form an elite class of techno-snobs. Generally, everyone is familiar with using other types of systems such as Windows and Mac. We're just simply trying to create an atmosphere of education and discussion about Linux-type systems.

Upcoming Meeting

Friday, March 19th in the back room of Poets at around 8:15

Igneous will be presenting on the linux kernel including:
1) Reasons why you may wish to use a different kernel,
2) how to compile your own custom kernel vs a 'pre-built' kernel, and
3) how to configure your system to boot your additional kernel(s)

Hope to see everyone there!

Upcoming Event

March 20th NLUG InstallFest
(taken from NLUG's wiki at [WWW]http://nlug.wikispot.org/)
